Student Scholarship

 

Background

ITS New Mexico was founded in 2009 as a state chapter of ITS America (https://itsa.org/).  Our membership has grown steadily since to more than 250 individuals interested in the diverse areas of intelligent transportation systems, technologies, and applications.  In support of our goals to support research and ITS education, ITS New Mexico intends to award an annual student scholarship.

 

Details

ITS New Mexico intends to award at least one $1,500.00 scholarship. Any awarded funds will be a one-time deposit made directly into the student’s school account.

 

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Applicants should be enrolled in undergraduate status at a New Mexico college, university, or trades school at the times of application and scholarship award.
  • Applicants shall have completed at least one semester of coursework following high school graduation or GED at the time of application.
  • Applicants may not be in their final senior semester at the time of application.
  • Applicants should be pursuing coursework in a transportation related discipline including, but in no way limited to, engineering, planning, computer science, media/communications, policy development and implementation, or other related field.
  • Applicants will be offered a free student membership to ITS NM.

 

Basis of Selection

Prepare a letter of introduction (not to exceed three pages double-spaced) incorporating as many of the points below as possible:

  • Industry interest and alignment with the goals of ITS New Mexico.
  • Personal vision for participation in and/or for advancing the ITS industry.
  • Industry related work demonstrated through research, participation in projects, preparation of technical papers, or classroom learning.

 

Coursework performance as demonstrated by submitting a non-official transcript will also be considered. Applicants should also submit a listing of the classes they intend to take in the next semester (this listing is not included in the page count for the letter of introduction)

 

Award

The ITS New Mexico Board of Directors will designate a selection committee who will make award recommendations.  All selections and awards made by ITS New Mexico are final and shall not be subject to protest.  ITS New Mexico reserves the right to not award the scholarship in its sole discretion.

 

Application Process 

Complete the application form (click here) and upload your letter of introduction in either Microsoft Word or PDF formats.  Applications are due two weeks prior to the New Mexico Transportation & Construction Conference in the Spring of 2025 in Las Cruces.  Award selection(s) are anticipated to be announced at the Transportation Conference in Las Cruces in the Spring of 2025. Selected recipient(s) will be asked to attend the Transportation Conference in Las Cruces in the Spring of 2025. Attendance at the conference is not required to receive the scholarship.
